Welcome to Salesville in Henderson, Baxter County!

HISTORY

Leo Pitchford was elected the first mayor of Salesville. The community center became the prefecture of Salesville in 1972. Five years later, a volunteer fire brigade was formed, using the former city hall to store their trucks and equipment. A new city hall was built in 1991 with a four-bedroom garage added to it in 2001. The Volunteer Fire Department Auxiliary sponsors a breakfast and a vacation auction every December to help fund the department.

In the 21st century, the city’s businesses include a trout fishing resort, rental huts, a grocery store, a liquor store – one of the few in northern Arkansas that is open on Sundays – and a company that supplies scuba gear . The population of Salesville in 2010 was 450.

Baxter County, in north-central Arkansas, shares its northern border with the state of Missouri. With approximately 600 square miles of mountain scenery, pure lakes and rivers, Baxter County is both a retirement and tourism destination. Many retirees live in Mountain Home and Lake Bull Shoals is a great fishing area. 

Fantastic fishing and water sports on Lake Norfork, a few miles from golf courses, bowling alleys, tennis courts, roller blading, mini golf, go-carts, cinemas, churches, many excellent restaurants, antique shops and craft shops. 

There is the Norfork National Trout Hatchery and floating fishing trips for guided trout on the Norfork & White Rivers. Hiking and backpackers on trails kept around the Lake Norforkand Bull Shoals Other attractions close by are: Ozark Folk Center in Mountain View, AR, guided tours through the Blanchard Springs Caves and Bull Shoals caves, Dawt Mill, horseback riding. Branson, MO, has unique craft and quilt shops, malls, Silver Dollar City amusement park and several musical shows. There are Bass Pro Shop and Wonders Of Wildlife in Springfield, MO. For scenic drives, there is the Buffalo National River area and the Ozark National Forest.
